A spade bit is used to bore holes at a rapid speed unlike an auger bit. These spade drill bits feature a rigid steel shank and notched tips for cleaner holes and reduced breakout or tear out (splintering).
Spade bits are liable to cause tear out (splintering) when drilling all the way through wood unless you use a sacrificial piece of wood as a backing. The textured tip provides extra grab in both soft and hard wood, light building materials and plasterboard.
Spade drill bits are available in a wide range of sizes from 6 mm right up to 38 mm diameter. Choose your size from the dropdown box. They are 152 mm long and fit standard drills.
