Local FAQs
Electronic Road Signs — also called Variable Message Signs (VMS) — are programmable LED displays used to communicate information to road users. They can show text, symbols, graphics or animations to warn of hazards, inform motorists of traffic changes, guide detour routes or communicate speed limits.
Messages are controlled remotely via internet-enabled PC, tablet or mobile device, making it easy to update in real time. Many units are solar powered, offering independent off-grid operation for roadside deployment.
Vehicle-mounted VMS: Fixed to the roof of a service vehicle or work truck, these portable LED signs can be moved quickly from site to site. They use hydraulic lifts to raise the board when in use.
Trailer-mounted VMS: Self-contained trailers with LED displays that can be towed into position. These often include solar panels, deep-cycle batteries, GPS tracking and remote programming capabilities. They are ideal for longer-term deployments and high-visibility messaging.
Both types can display amber or full-colour messaging depending on the model.
Improved safety: Advance warning of hazards helps drivers adapt to changing road conditions.
Reduced congestion: Early traffic information helps reduce stop-and-go situations.
Fast messaging updates: Remote programming allows messages to change instantly.
Portability: Trailer and vehicle-mounted units can be relocated as needed.
Solar operation: Off-grid solar systems reduce reliance on external power supply.
