The recent adoption of AS2870 Residential Slabs and Footings into the Building Code of Australia mean that approved black plastic can be used in situations laid out in the code. This includes situations such as concrete underlay, ie: when service trenches pass under slab footings. Black plastic of an approved thickness must be used. This heavy duty black builders film or black plastic can be used as a membrane barrier to prevent moisture ingress (note it's best to always check the design recommendations for your individual project).
