The TAU-XR is a MASH TL3-compliant crash cushion, designed for impact absorption, vehicle redirection, and quick repair in high-risk road environments.
The TAU-XR is a high-performance, MASH TL3-compliant crash cushion designed to protect the blunt ends of concrete barriers and other roadside hazards. Engineered for low maintenance, it allows for rapid repairs and reusability of components after impacts—making it ideal for high-traffic areas and hazardous locations.
Featuring crushable aluminium tubes, the TAU-XR effectively absorbs kinetic energy to safely contain vehicles during head-on collisions, while its side panels provide controlled redirection in side impacts.
This fully re-directive, non-gating system ensures safe vehicle containment and controlled deceleration. Designed for versatility, it can be installed on concrete pads or asphalt surfaces, making it suitable for both permanent and temporary (work zone) applications.
Features:
ASBAP Approved – Accepted by the Austroads Safety Barrier Assessment Panel.
Rapid Repair & Reusability – Designed for quick restoration after impacts.
Pre-Assembled for Fast Installation – Supplied ready to install, reducing downtime.
Versatile Installation – Can be secured to concrete or asphalt surfaces.
Crash Test Evaluation:
The TAU-XR crash cushion has undergone rigorous testing to meet MASH TL3 compliance, ensuring reliable impact performance in various collision scenarios:
MASH 3-30 – 1100kg passenger car at 100km/h, 0° (head-on impact).
Tested under real-world conditions, the TAU-XR ensures superior vehicle containment, impact energy absorption, and controlled redirection, making it a trusted solution for high-risk road environments.
A crash cushion is regarded as Low Maintenance if more than 90% of components are reusable following design impacts.
Low Maintenance Crash Cushions are recommended on high traffic volume roadways and hazardous locations including gore areas, exit ramps, shielding of median barriers and construction workzones.
Following a head-on impact, 32 aluminium tubes will require replacement. Following a side impact, two (2) side panels will need replacing.
The TAU-XR is designed to be repaired onsite in approximately 30 minutes minimising disruption to traffic.
The TAU-XR can be secured to a minimum 150mm reinforced concrete pad or asphaltic concrete.
The TAU-XR uses standard three-beam panels which can transition to standard guardrail or concrete barriers.
