The North East Link covers 5 major projects in one, an ambitious undertaking that aims to change the way people move around Melbourne by road, bus and bike.

Work on the first element – the North East Link Tunnels – was awarded to the Spark consortium in 2021 with early site works underway to get the area ready for tunnel construction to begin in late 2022. When complete, the North East Link Tunnels will take 15,000 trucks off local roads every day and slash travel times by up to 35 minutes.

Construction compounds and work areas are currently being set up in several areas, and the Jaybro team has been able to assist contractors with a wide range of equipment and supplies to ensure the sites can be established quickly and efficiently.

• Geosynthetic fabrics and geogrid to help develop strong and reliable access roads.
• Trafix Water Barriers to delineate areas around the site and keep equipment and people separate.
• 6m concrete barriers to provide reliable crash protection and ensure accidental impacts are minimised. Some concrete barriers have been supplied with screens fitted – these screens keep debris from exiting the site and help with anti-gawk protection around the perimeter of the site.

• Temporary site fencing to enclose each work site, ensuring safety, security and protection.
• Coir logs and environmental control products – keeping runoff, silt and construction debris contained is critical to ensure the site complies with environmental protection standards. Biodegradable coir logs are ideal for rerouting debris to ensure pollution doesn’t enter stormwater drains.
