Safe and Seamless Drainage for Campbelltown Billabong Parklands

Project Overview
The Campbelltown Billabong Parklands is a new outdoor recreational space constructed near Campbelltown CBD, featuring pools and interactive water play facilities, landscaped areas and parklands set on a four-hectare site. Jointly funded by the Campbelltown City Council, the Australian Government, and the NSW Government through the Western Sydney Liveability Program, the project represented a significant investment in creating a vibrant community destination.
As part of the construction, Jaybro drainage systems were provided to meet the dual requirements of functionality and durability, offering a solution that could withstand the high levels of foot traffic anticipated in the area and assist in creating a safer community space.
The Challenge
Pedestrian areas of the park required drainage systems that could seamlessly integrate into the pathways, controlling and dispersing surface water from rainfall and runoff to ensure park usability. In the event of wet weather, the surface of the drain also needed to provide anti-slip properties for public safety.
The drainage system needed to be unobtrusive and provide an accessible surface for all users, including those with prams, wheelchairs, and mobility aids. Additionally, it was essential that the drainage system be robust enough to withstand wear and tear from continuous use while remaining low maintenance to ensure long-term reliability and cost effectiveness.
Our Solution
To meet these technical requirements, Jaybro supplied the MEA Access AZ2000 Galvanised Steel Edge Polymer Concrete with Galvanised Heelguard Grate, a versatile and durable drainage solution ideal for a wide range of applications including sports fields, parks, landscaped areas, streetscape projects, and car parks.
The Polymer Drainage Channel was selected for its high-quality Polymer concrete construction, known for its durability, strength, and resistance to chemicals and weathering. The attached Class D load rated Heelguard Slotted Grate is made of high-quality galvanised steel. With an anti-slip surface for safety, the grate is easy to remove and clean by onsite maintenance teams, providing the park a long-term, low-maintenance solution.
In the Campbelltown Billabong Parklands, the concrete drainage channel was strategically installed in high-traffic pedestrian areas, ensuring effective water drainage while withstanding significant footfall. This robust solution is essential for maintaining the reliability, safety, and functionality of the public area.
