RUOK Day at Jaybro
The team at Jaybro Group is dedicated to normalising mental health challenges, and ensuring the lines of communication are always open within our business.
For this reason, RUOK Day is one of the key dates on our calendar, which we recently marked with company-wide morning teas and toolbox talks. However, the conversation around mental health isn’t simply a box to be ticked off once a year.
Support, care and mindfulness need to be baked into a company’s culture every day, which is why we have invested in several programs and initiatives throughout the past 12 months.
ONGOING SUPPORT INITIATIVES
Jaybro’s Uprise Program
Uprise is Jaybro’s internal employee assistance program (EAP) centred around mental health. This confidential platform gives our team training and tools on physical and mental well-being plus access to health practitioners if needed. A remote team of highly experienced psychologists ensure employees can have a meaningful counselling experience if they need support.
Resilience Webinar supporting Soldier On
Our team heard from Bill Sullivan, Salesforce Financial Services Regional Director, on the topic of building resilience and managing overwhelm. Bill served in various leadership capacities as a jet and helicopter pilot in the United States Air Force for over 20 years.
As a speaker, he shared some valuable lessons including ideas to help work through mental health challenges, suggestions for balance in our lives during difficult or stressful periods of time, and mechanisms for protection against experiences that could be overwhelming.
As part of this program, Jaybro was proud to donate $1000 to Soldier On.
Healthy Tradie Project
Managing your mental health is much easier when your physical health is on track too. Our operations team has been part of the Healthy Tradie project, a program centred around mindfulness, movement and nutrition via a range of webinars and workshops.
The Raise Foundation: supporting youth in mental health and mentoring
As part of our ongoing commitment to support young people, Jaybro has partnered with RAISE, a leading youth mentoring organisation helping teenagers to shape a life they love.
As evidenced by our hands-on immersive industry days for local high school students, and our long term partnership with the MIGAS trainee program, we’re determined to continue this support of young people in as many ways as we can.
Mental Health First Aid Training
Our trainee people leaders have participated in Mental Health First Aid training - a unique program that teaches people the skills they need to help someone they're concerned about. These skills help people to recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems, possible risk factors, and awareness of the various treatment pathways available.
Wellness by the numbers
As a whole, Jaybro’s mental health awareness and wellness programs have had a noticeable impact on our team, with our internal wellness score rising from 7.6 in early 2020 to 8.4 in 2022.
Even throughout the challenges of Covid, it is rewarding to see that everyone on our team has embraced a culture of care and awareness. Our team is also growing in their confidence when it comes to noticing and communicating about mental health, and as always, showing care and compassion for their colleagues.
