Raising London Circuit (CLR Stage 2)

Raising London Circuit (CLR Stage 2)

Project: Raising London Circuit (CLR Stg2)
Contact: Balwanthe Kondakindi
Address: London Circuit, Canberra

Project Snapshot

Raising London Circuit is a major city shaping project which will better connect the city with the lake by delivering more accessible footpaths and dedicated bike lanes, making Canberra a more connected, sustainable and vibrant place to live.

The road project provides an important foundation for extending light rail to Woden. It underpins light rail design work, ensures there is seamless integration of light rail infrastructure and provides a level and more accessible intersection for light rail and its passengers.

Raising London Circuit is the most significant change to the road network in central Canberra since the 1960s and will deliver a more people-friendly interchange for pedestrians, cyclists and public transport.

The Challenges

Both pedestrian safety and the control of unauthorised access are of high importance to all projects, Raising London Circuit is no exception.

London Cct is the very popular road that circuits the City Hill, directly opposite the Australian Parliament House, and is one of the busiest locations in the Nations Capital. With the Supreme Court, Police Station, Museums, theatres, restaurants and thousands of car parking lots, it is critical that construction can proceed without pedestrians accessing the site and presenting hazards to themselves and the construction team.

These difficulties are often overcome by hiring temporary fencing and installing it arounds compounds and works areas, however in the case with Raising London Circuit it was not the most viable solution!

Construction work is split into many stages and this means the fencing would need to be moved multiple times, resulting in extra charges, manual handling risks with heavy panels and feet. Rental also becomes an expensive option on a project of a longer duration!

Our Solution

The team at Fortress Fencing offered a great deal for McConnell Dowell to purchase the temporary fencing, meaning that the site security costs are known and fixed, and not likely to blow out of budget as rented fence has a tendency to do. We have supplied our lightweight, yet sturdy Fortress 3000 series panel, with highly visible feet to both reduce handling risks and tripping hazards for the public.

The 2000 series panel uses anti-climb mesh to prevent children from accessing the site during shutdowns also reducing injury risk and liability to McConnell Dowell.

Fortress 2000 panels and feet are light enough for 1 man to install, and a 2-man team can install panels 2.5 times more efficiently than with traditional Australian Temp Fencing.
