The Project

At Jaybro, we were thrilled to collaborate with the designer, builder, and contractor on the upgrade of Barrenjoey Road's Council gutter system in Avalon, NSW. The project aimed to provide a pedestrian-friendly, visually appealing, low-maintenance, and durable drainage solution, meeting the stringent requirements set by the local Northern Beaches Council.

The Challenges

Throughout the project, there were several challenges that required innovative solutions. The first task was to ensure the drainage system's resilience against the harsh coastal environment, guaranteeing long-term durability. Additionally, we had to address the need to accommodate vehicle access and effectively redirect stormwater. Moreover, the design had to meet the specific location's requirements, including both straight and curved run sections. Lastly, the drainage system had to support heavy-duty commercial traffic, necessitating a Class D (240kN) loading capacity.

Our Solution

Leveraging our expertise in custom fabricated stainless steel drainage solutions, we delivered a successful outcome for the Barrenjoey Road project. Our comprehensive solution incorporated the following features:

• Grade 316 Stainless Steel: to combat the corrosive coastal environment, we selected Grade 316 stainless steel material. This choice ensured long-lasting performance and minimal maintenance requirements, enhancing the system's durability.
• Lockable anti-slip stainless steel bar grate and frame: we supplied a 450mm wide clear opening, lockable, anti-slip stainless steel bar grate and frame that perfectly matched the project's aesthetic and safety requirements. Our grate design prioritised pedestrian safety, significantly reducing the risk of slips and falls.
• Sump grate and frame: ensuring consistency and functionality throughout the drainage system, we provided a matching sump grate and frame. This cohesive addition enhances the system's efficiency and overall effectiveness.
• Customisable design: our team worked closely with the project stakeholders to create straight and curved run sections that seamlessly integrated with the location's design requirements. This flexibility allowed for a tailored solution that met both functional and aesthetic needs, enhancing the overall project outcome.
• Tamperproof lockdowns: implementing tamperproof lock downs, we enhanced the security of the drainage system, preventing unauthorised access and ensuring its integrity and functionality.
