PROJECT SNAPSHOT
The Harwood Bridge project was awarded to AFJV (Acciona Ferrovial Joint Venture) in July 2016. The bridge will have an overall length of 1.5 kilometres and is being constructed 30 metres downstream of the existing river crossing. The specialist Geosynthetic team at Jaybro supplied geosynthetic fabrics to the value of $1 million as part of this project.
THE CHALLENGES
The project managers at Acciona Ferrovial Joint Venture specified a range of geosynthetic products that must be high quality and durable. Needing products to arrive on time and on budget, AFJV chose to trust Jaybro as a local procurement partner.
JAYBRO’S SOLUTION
AFJV awarded the Jaybro Geosynthetic division the contract for supply and delivery for geotextiles and associated materials. Jaybro was successful with this million dollar contract due to its innovative product range.
Plus, Jaybro set up a stock holding yard within five minutes of the site compound on the north of the Clarence River to solve the issues of limited site storage.
AFJV were also impressed with Jaybro’s simplified purchasing and stock management system. AFJV used mastaTEX NonWoven and HS Woven geotextiles and mastaGRID Poly geogrid in building the bridge abutments and for reinforcing pads for piling works.
THE PROJECT IN DETAIL
Designed as a dual carriageway bridge, this project intends to improve traffic conditions on the Pacific Highway. Located in regional Harwood, the Clarence River Crossing involves land and marine piling of 117 foundations. Along with this, workers would carry out significant excavation and concrete installations.
This bridge is part of the overall Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway Upgrade, worth over $4.3 billion.
When completed, motorists can expect to save up to two and a half hours driving between Sydney and Brisbane. A safer, more efficient highway with improved travel reliability is the ultimate aim. The government also promises this project will deliver better flood immunity, fewer incidents and more readily available alternative routes.
The upgrade is expected to be completed by 2020.
