Turnkey Concrete Barrier Solution for Melton City Council
Customer: Melton City Council
Project: COVID Safe Street Dining Area
System used: Concrete safety barriers
Location: Caroline Springs, VIC
Note: This project took place in December 2020, prior to the most recent Victorian lockdown enforcement.
Project Snapshot
The Victorian Government’s ‘Road Map to Reopening in Metropolitan Melbourne’ covers certain guidelines that need to be followed as the State’s vibrant hospitality sector begins to reopen for business in December 2020.
Despite a few minor setbacks with new cases and short lockdowns being enforced recently, the State is keen to work through these challenges and help hospitality venues to get back on their feet.
Melton City Council in the city’s west is working with the Victorian Government to re-open local restaurants and cafes in a COVID safe manner.
Because many local cafes and restaurants in the area do not have existing outdoor seating areas, a road barrier solution was required to ensure that patrons were kept safe as restaurants expanded their seating areas onto the footpath and verge.
The Challenges
With limited indoor dining allowed, outdoor dining is being strongly encouraged at local businesses. To help businesses return in a way that is safe, viable and sustainable, Melton City Council needed to work on ways to expand available outdoor dining space in the area.
Many hospitality venues did not have existing outdoor seating areas created, so the Council needed to utilise footpath space without putting patrons at risk due to the proximity to cars on the road.
A low profile safety barrier installed between the road and the seating areas would solve the issue for the Council team.
Jaybro’s Solution
Jaybro’s Fortress Fencing team mobilised a local team to deliver a series of Deltabloc concrete barriers and SLED attenuators to a restaurant strip in Caroline Springs.
With Melton City Council needing a turn-key solution, our team was able to deliver the concrete safety barriers and position them in place with a crane truck, as well as installing the SLED attenuators on site.
To complete the project, our team filled the SLED water barrier modules with a water cart, leaving the Council with a finished safety barrier solution.
The Deltabloc concrete crash barriers offer strong and reliable breakthrough protection, making them ideal as a safety barricade to protect pedestrians from cars.
